The village of Helford lies in the north east of the Lizard Peninsula along the southearn banks of the Helford River. The river and estuary itself forming the northearn border of the Lizard Perninsula. Helford is a small village with one pub, The Shipwrights Arms, a sailing club (a busy one at that!) and a village shop. There is also a lovely cafe near the Helford River sailing club that used to be an old Chapel..
The area remains largly unspolit and attracts a lot of visitors during the summer months. Natrually watersports play a large part and dinghy sailing, kayaking and diving is popular. The Helford Estuary opens out into the English Channel, south of Falmouth Bay, and provides a large sescape to explore including the Carrick Roads, the River Fal which goes up all the way to Truro, Percuil River at St Mawes and along the south coasts of the Lizard and Roseland Peninsula's.
South of the Helford lies unspolit open countryside and towards the weat, lots of woods to visit and explore. The Helford River finally dries up at Gweek, home to the National seal sanctuary, and itself another lovely Lizard village to explore.
During the summer a foot passenger ferry operates between Helford and Helford passage on the north side of the river, opening up even more walks and countryside to explore including Trebah Gardens and Glendurgan Gardens.
Helford has lots of self catering cottages and houses available to rent as well as some fine bed and breakfasts. The Budock Vean is the nearest Hotel and is set north of the river, ideal to walk to for a bit of pampering by taking the foot ferry!
Helford is a village with a unique charm, surrounded by the best of the Cornish land and seascapes. A true delight!
